Winner – CBGB Fest – The leap forward from 2013 to 2013 has been huge and the Thursday night gig at Bowery Electric, 30 bands between 7pm and 4am, is already legendary (Jahn Xavier is documenting who played and we will share it once it’s finished). But really, it would be worth the price of admission if only because, as I wasn’t aware, you could have gotten into Ginger Baker with your pass. Today, there is Arto Lindsay at Bowery Electric and that free gig on 42nd street. So you gotta think, these guys really pulled it off.
Loser – Bowery Electric – I don’t what these guys deal is, but what they did to Cheri Dahl was despical. A big chance for the great singer songwriter and they held up for a lousy $200. That is ridiculous and I hope Jesse has some form of explanation but I will never find out because these guess are so clueless they don’t know who Ellen Foley is. Insulated and arrogant, when did charging bands to play, or some variation, become the norm? Tomas Doncker told me the sea change occured in the early 00s. My feeling it is much like Cardinal Wolsey’s old line (reallyreally old line) about Henry VIII: don’t tell him what he can do, tell him what he should do.
