I don’t know if this was totally necessary, how many ‘best of’, compilations, ‘essentials of’ Paul Simon do you need if you are a fan and already owns all his albums?. There already were ‘The Essential Paul Simon’ released in 2007, ‘This Better Be Good’ released in 2009, and very recently ‘Songwriter’ released in 2011… and this is without mentioning a 2012 live album ‘Live in New York City’ . Still, another compilation, ‘Over the Bridge of Time: A Paul Simon Retrospective (1964-2011)’ will be released on October 15th via Legacy Recordings.
But there’s a big difference with this new one as it will contain both Simon & Garfunkel recordings and solo hit singles and tracks from Paul Simon solo album catalog, a long career summed up in only 20 songs, in chronological order, from ‘The Sound of Silence’ to ‘Love and Hard Times’ off his last studio album ‘So Beautiful Or So What’. Honestly, how do you choose 20 songs from so many?
I am not the right person for this, as I have never found an interest in compilations, why getting the same songs in a different order, on a different CD? But I am sure it will find its public.
And Paul Simon also has some tour projects for 2014… with Sting! It’s not official yet, but Sting announced it in this video. They will tour only in the US in January and will sing each other’s songs. Too bad I can’t stand Sting!
