Reykjavik Calling, Heading To NYC October 3 – 6th, 2013

Snorri Calling

Le Poison Rouge will be the musical home base for a festival celebrating Icelandic food, music, and culture on October 5th.  Reykjavik Calling makes its first trip to NYC this year.  Iceland?  I bet you think of Bjork right?  But don’t forget others like of Monsters and Men and Solely.

Although the event is 18+ they hope to bring in a crowd to celebrate the culture and the up coming bands of their region.  Talk about national pride.  I wonder if they have an ‘America Calling” fest over there.

Performers include singer/songwriter Snorri Helgason, pop songstress Lara Runars, and electro-pop outfit Syker. Also performing are New Yorkers Petter Ericson Stakee of Alberta Cross and a special DJ set from Caveman.  So you say you’ve never heard of any of them?  GOOD! That’s the purpose of these events.  Keep in mind this event is running into one of the most musically charged times for NYC.  Between CMJ and the CBGB Festival the streets should be jam packed with music fans from all genres.  All the more reason to check Iceland’s offerings.

I do believe that Caveman is from NYC- maybe they once visited Iceland?   As for the best name on the bill, “Snorri” his music is described as “heartfelt and introspective, yet universal, a highly relatable exploration of his personal struggles and emotions. An avid student of pop history, Snorri keeps a firm foot in the past and a clear eye on the future, bringing forth a constant stream of timeless folk-tinged melodies and carefully constructed songs that are very much of the time.”

The event is free and you can register at Le Poison Rouge’s website.
