Does anyone even remember M.I.A.’s middle finger during her appearance at the 2012 Super Bowl half-time show? I can’t even remember that she was singing with Madonna and another gal, as so many more relevant things have happened since. Anyway, M.I.A. has been fighting for months over her misstep since the football league has been very upset about her FY gesture, which, by the way, must have lasted a second or less. Nobody was talking about it anymore but the Hollywood Reporter says that Football officials have started an ‘arbitration proceeding’ against her for ‘breach of contract’, seeking $1.5 million in damages. This is simply ridiculous, how did they come up with a monstrous number like this? Prove me they have even lost one penny from advertising!
M.I.A’s lawyer, Howard King has responded and he is totally right, how this bunch of well-behaved people can sue someone for a tiny middle finger:
‘The NFL’s claimed reputation for wholesomeness is hilarious, in light of the weekly felonies committed by its stars, the bounties placed by coaches on opposing players, the homophobic and racist comments uttered by its players, the complete disregard for the health of players and the premature deaths that have resulted from same, and the raping of public entities ready to sacrifice public funds to attract teams’.
He is totally right, which doesn’t prevent but M.I.A. from being a total hypocrite, if you accept the money you can’t say f-you to the generous donor! This is too funny, let’s just hope the NFL will hire Miley Cyrus!
