Winner – Tomas Doncker And Jahn Xavier – Two guys I know personally, two guys at the top of their recording forms, with albums that made my Top Five list of 2013 (so far), and two guys who played record release parties this week, one I’ve seen (Tomas, who killed it at the Blue Note on Monday) and one who I will see today (Jahn at Arlene’s Grocery) and who I assume big big things of. Both these guys deserve your love and your money, so provide them.
Loser – Lady Gaga – I’ve reviewed it elsewhere and , with an exception here and there, I have no problem with the songs off the new albums and consider three of them first tier Gaga. BUT, IN HER 70 MINUTE Itunes festival gig, she spent more than half of it talking and changing clothes. What the hell is that? Really, when did she become such blowhard? It was incredible distracting and annoying. I made a recording with just the music and the music? This might end up being a big album, at least certainly not a disaster. But on stage? All you can do is shake your head and wonder what the hell she thinks she’s doing. It makes, though it isn’t really, an average of nearly nine minutes a song.
