There is nothing like a High School musical. Each kid on that stage thinks theyre the next Broadway baby and every person in the audience is praying it will end soon. Exaggeration? A bit I suppose, but there is no doubt their are cringe worthy moments in every show.
The mega legends Queen created a theatrical version of the music entitled “We Will Rock You” and it has successfully run in London for over 11 years now. Celebrating the songs of the infamous band its a bit like amped up karaoke. But it makes the people feel good and the nostalgia is really harmless. I do wonder why a genius like Brian May would create such a thing but I’d like ot think its legacy instead of currency.
What is occurring now is the horror- the show is being offered to schools. Many shows are available to school theater departments, often shortened and simplified carrying the ‘Jr’ suffix, this script package sounds rather interesting though I wonder if the outcome will cause even greater cringing.
Here are the details from the shows website:
Schools Will Rock You is the new initiative for schools launched by Queen + Ben Elton, the producers of the Worldwide smash hit musical We Will Rock You…and it is coming to North America!
Schools Will Rock aims to make the magic of the giant hit musical We Will Rock You available to schools, to enable them to develop and stage their own version of the show, learning and enjoying every aspect of putting together a stage production along the way.
Schools Will Rock You will offer information, expertise, tools and support to help to schools in the US and Canada to plan and ultimately produce their own performance of the show!
I wish you all good luck on this one- last thing the world needs is a 15 year old boy singing ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, they could never compete with Waynes World.
