The world needs more Journey. Steve Perry and his vocal range made the 80’s stellar. The rally cry of ‘dont stop believing’ lives on and even got a boost from the God awful series Glee.
Remember when PBS was high brow? “I only watch public television’ was a snobby ‘better than you’ statement said by the folk who would never dare admit they were watching ALF. But hey, what do you get when you mix Journey with PBS? A documentary of course and its coming to your screen on September 30th.
Whoa hold up.. no Steve Perry? Nope. the “Don’t Stop Believin’; Everyman’s Journey’ is the story of the rise of Arnel Pineda. The guy who sound just like Perry, but isn’t.
In 2007, the Filipino singer started posting covers of classic rock songs onto YouTube. Mysteriously, Neal Schon, guitarist for Journey happened upon one. How the frik did that happen?. Schon was reportedly “Blown away” by Pineda’s act and vocal similarity Perry, Neal flew Arnel from Manila to San Francisco to audition for the band, and the rest is history.
The documentary then goes in to Arnels sad back story of being homeless since age 13 in the Philippines and how demanding the new life of Journey front man was and to be honest with you the fact that they even made this documentary reinforces my opinion of the band.
They suck.
Another question is who the hell would be interested in this and the final point is….how pissed is Steve Perry?! That’s the documentary I want to see.
