I have read about similar events in the past, but each time I am outraged and I wonder why everyone isn’t boycotting the artist. Kanye West, who apparently thinks he is not rich enough, was reportedly invited to perform a private concert at Nursultan Nazarbayev’s grandson wedding and was paid in the neighborhood of $3 million, according to TMZ!
I guess someone had to pay for these golden seat toilets in the new house. The problem is that Nursultan Nazarbayev is the corrupted president of Kazakhstan, which despite being Borat’s country, isn’t really a funny place to be. The man is described by the BBC as power-hungry, he has suppressed the opposition, failed to deliver fair elections, and has passed reforms that which allow him to return for an unlimited number of terms: this guy has been in power for 21 years for god’s sake! He is a dictator, right? In Kazakhstan, the internet is closely monitored, and a list of sites regarded as ‘extremist and destructive’ are blocked… sites like ‘LiveJournal’, Twitter or independent news sites. It’s clearly a bad sign! The Kazakhstan’s president is also a very rich dude who has allegedly put a lot of oil money in his own pocket, nothing really surprising as the country is ranked 122nd in its corruption index, putting it among the worst of the world. What part of corrupted dictator doesn’t Kanye West understand?
Okay, West is not the only superstar to have done this, he just joins a long list of performers who will admit later they had forgotten to google the name of their famous host, but he and Jennifer Lopez should do a very very long tour in the region!
