Oingo Boingo was a new wave group that made it big with the creepy “Little Girls”.  Lead singer Danny Elfman was disturbing in the video and with the most distinct voice.  You can pull that out of any crowd.  I really liked them for about a week but found that whole ‘dork rock’ scene a bit of a bore after time.  DEVO fell into that category as well.

Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO went on to score tons of TV and movies and hey guess what?!  Danny Elfman scored tons of films too.  Creepy being his angle since most of his work was with the fuzzy Tim Burton.

It has been 18 years since Elfman hit a stage and he is headed to LA in celebration of Burtons films.  The tribute is conducted by John Mauceri and features the 87-piece Hollywood Symphony Orchestra and the 45-member Page LA Choir, along with Elfman’s guest appearance. Accompanied by film clips and the artwork of Tim Burton, the setlist will feature newly created suites from all 15 film Elfman/Burton collaborations including “Batman,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “Beetlejuice,” “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory,” “Alice in Wonderland” and, of course – “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

The show will take place on October 31, at the Nokia Theater, how appropriate to rev up “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” In addition to writing the film score for the 1993 cult classic the Grammy Award-winning composer recorded the singing voice for Jack Skellington, as well as a few additional characters.

There are more dates on the horizon, they’re just not announced yet.  Tickets for the Cali gig go on sale September 13.  I suppose new dates will be announced soon.

In the meantime check out Oingo in their former glory…whoa. Uh oh…
