Fallen Angel-King Crimson-Within the first 15 seconds, a synthesizer becomes a bass synthesizer, adding ‘lectic guitar and violin drone. Then John Wetton sings. Are Asia fans hip to this shit? Bill Bruford is annihilating the kit here. Robert Fripp is playing these soaring leads and veg-o-matic rhythms against a woodwind-brass quintet. I rate it high amongst their many highest moments.
Walter Westinghouse-The Residents- Persistent, like the oil sitting in the ocean, making my future shrimp cocktails more expensive. Firesign Theater meets The Cars.
The Wall Street Shuffle-10cc Not the song I’d pick by them, but it still has great musicality. It’s about a different kind of greed.
Watered-Down Love-Bob Dylan – Thanks Iman, for turning me on to the “Shot Of Love” LP. Another reason why rock criticism is pointless. What an amazing track off an amazing record.
There’s Gonna Be A Storm-The Left Banke – NYC’s legendary baroque rockers doing what they do best. “The Official Left Banke Page” is the single best reason to use Facebook right now.
Wait Until Tomorrow-Jimi Hendrix Experience – In the gulf waiting for some boom.
I Wait Around-The Clean – See above
Things Are Going To Get Better-Small Faces Tell Doug Suttles that.
All Dead, All Dead-Queen-I swear to God this is at random.
Clash City Rockers- The Clash- Nothing stand the pressure of some thicker than oil viscous glop.
Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?- CTA -I remember that the amazing intro to this song was chopped off the 45 so the radio would play it. I listen to it now and The Beach Boys influence (not just in the vocals) is so evident.
Lola-The Kinks – It’s British hillbilly music with soaring two part harmony. This is why it’s not The Kinks without Dave. Dig the bongos on the fade, y’all.
Cinnamon Girl-Neil Young-Like the disbursement powder used to “break up the oil” in the Gulf Of Mexico. Toxic, but approved.
Not Fences, Mere Masks-Untied States –Awesome herky-jerkiness here that reminds me of classic Gang Of Four, or even a sinister Beechwood Sparks.
Pump It Up-Elvis Costello- Random, I swear to God.
“The volume of oil coming out of the well has reduced significantly”.
I sure as hell hope so.
