Kellin Quinn's $80.00 Faux Pas

First off,  I am pretty sure most of you have no idea who Kellin is.  He is the lead singer of  a crappy little band called Sleeping With Sirens.  Their shelf life is brief.  When their fans get old enough to drive they will be over this pop punk stuff and on to greater things.  The issue for this is $80.

Last week Kellin offered a Polaroid package meet and greet for $80.  Hes a bit of a sex symbol for the girlies so of course every parent was being shaked down. I say go for it, earn it while you can.  My opinion is very unpopular.  The scenesters are up and arms as if its some horrible dis service.  Its not kids- if you don’t want it don’t pay for it.  Pretty simple stuff.

Fans can judge all they want- but for $80 you’ll get a ticket to the show with early entry, poster and Polaroid and if you’re a huge fan this is well worth it to you.  Those who judge really have no merit.  Again, don’t pay if you don’t approve.   Other mediocre rockers have chimed in with their opinions the best being Oli  Sykes of Bring Me The Horizon who said:

‘Next USA tour! Oli Sykes special polaroid package! Take a photo with me! Special price! Absolutly no charge at all! Fucking cockstars.’

He’s a hot mess but loads of fun live.  Here are a few others words of wisdom

White Lies said “Competition is fine for a meet and greet, charging people feels a bit like prostitution.”

Bastille said “It’s so opportunistic and very not cool, it’s so vile, what’s wrong with the world.”

Jake Bugg said “I think thats ridiculous  you can’t charge people to come and say hello and come and meet you when there’s a good chance people might stop you in the street for a photo anyway. Seems a bit daft.”

Frank Turner said “I’d feel very uncomfortable charging for access to me as an individual, I don’t consider myself any different to the propel coming to my shows, the moment I’m not on actively on stage playing, i’m the same as everybody else. If we bump into each other in a bar we’ll hang out if we don’t we won’t.”

Biffy Clyro said “I think artists charging for meet and greet’s is absolutely appalling, I don’t think you can put a price on meeting somebody,I think that’s ridiculous you’re paid to perform and that makes sense, meeting people is part of the job, you’re meant to just be nice to people. What’s five minutes to shake somebodies hand, very much against that.”

But the best comment was from Kellin Quinn himself and I agree 100%

‘My response, I feel like this is an amazing deal for 80 dollars if you disagree then don’t buy it, no one is forcing you k? keep in mind Polaroid film is super expensive, your getting the ticket to the show, you get front row over anyone else.. If you only want to pay general admission then just do that. However, if you do like the idea of doing all these things included.. It’s ONLY 80 dollars.. I would never charge someone money for just a picture with me.. I try and do anything and everything for my fans.. I do in fact have a family, and that family needs to be fed.. So thanks for supporting us and helping me continue to tour.. Without you there is no us! Love you Kellin”
