“I don’t know what’s wrong, I’m just depressed…”

So the word on the street, or at least at Spin.com, is 1980s is the decade that comes to mind when discussing  Drake’s latest teaser of his September 17th third album (on Cash Money records, who have had a monumentally crappy year so far) “Hold On, We’re Going Home”. But then they also compare it to “Blurred Lines” and “Get Lucky” whileas it sounds like the song Weeknd having trying to write for two years now.

I’m gonna be seeing him (day after rock nyc writer Louba Lababedi’s wedding) on  October 27th at Prudential and I have only seen Drake before as part of a larger posse so I am really excited, but even so I can’t go along with the concept that “Hold On, we’re Going Home”. Call me old fashioned by it lacks the kick it needs to be major, for all “Started from the Bottom”’s weirdness it hightails it hard into you.

Instead it has that certain post-808s Drake-y downbeat, it’s like mixing heroin with ludes, or if that is overdoing, it is having a very good time, but not a very very very good time.  The beat is beyond competent, and drake sounds good, but the song is draggy.

How will this play out on stage (or through the record?). I dunno but it won’t be enough fun.
