The UK soccer team Chelsea defender Ashley Cole, 29, and 26 year old, Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole, as big a celebrity couple as there is in the UK, are to formally split after three and a half years of marriage.
A spokeswoman for Cheryl’s PR company confirmed that divorce papers had been filed at the High Court on Tuesday, but declined to go into the reasons behind the split.
Media reports she had cited the “unreasonable behaviour” of her husband, after a series of press allegations of his infidelity.
Ever since they got married in 2006, the couple have lived in full glare of the media spotlight, with paparazzi following their every move.
