Mexican artist Jose Rodolfo Loaiza Ontiveros’ world is populated by Disney characters highly influenced by the current Hollywood and rock culture, as he definitively puts a satirical spin on our celebrities’ most famous vices and taboos. I just saw his latest exhibit ‘DisHollywood’ at La Luz de Jesus and here are a few of his acrylic paintings showing Pinocchio or Peter Pan, Cinderella, the Sleeping Beauty or Snow white doing the unimaginable, caught in tabloid scandals, shooting heroin or snorting cocaine like real rock stars, kissing Madonna, shaving their head like Britney Spears, getting a beating like Rihanna, or wearing Lady Gaga’s meat dress. Hey, why wouldn’t they have a wild life too?

Freddie Mercury Jimi Hendrix and Madonna are Loaiza’s favorite musicians but he has also used Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Michael Jackson’s imagery. ‘I found them to be a great vehicle of communication and expression, and decided they should be part of this project which refers to the excesses of the fame… Young Britney Spears represents a key figure in pop culture, almost as if she’s the contemporary ‘Disasterland’ princess’, he explained.

So be ready, all your childhood heroes are either gay or drug addicts, but they have excellent taste in music! It takes some guts to do that to these beloved characters, but the result is hilarious… here is a selection of Jose Rodolfo Loaiza Ontiveros’ paintings:
