So it looks like TV On The Radio is up for another album? Their last one, ‘Nine Types of Light’ was released in 2011, and was unfortunately followed by the death of bassist and producer Gerard Smith.

But the Huffington Post just premiered their new single, entitled ‘Mercy’, that you can now stream on SoundCloud, but the band had actually already previewed this same song live during All Tomorrow’s Parties last May. The song runs fast with a great and catchy rhythm, a little bit like something the Black Keys could have written in another (extra) dimension, with buzzing guitars, infectious drumming and more layers adding at the top of each other while the song is spreading and expanding,… it sounds like a perfect song to drive on a fast freeway toward large open horizons, or may be the exact match for my morning jog.

Multi-instrumentalist Kyp Malone declared to the Hufington Post that the band has been really ‘excited to be getting back into it, all together’, that they have also recorded another song, ‘Million Miles’, and that ‘The new songs…came to fruition with such ease that it felt like an invitation to get back to this good work’.

As the band parted ways with their label Interscope, this new initiative to release songs through Soundcloud comes from Dave Sitek’s Federal Prism label, as Sitek himself explained: ‘Federal Prism stands by the notion that SoundCloud represents one of the most organic and well executed platforms for artists and listeners to interact. This is especially true for all of us who are serious about the creation and sustainability of music. In our minds, this goes beyond marketing or even a sales strategy… to the basic and inspiring impetus of music making.’

The song is totally good and you should stream it below,… meanwhile fans should be excited to get new music and probably a new album soon although no official announcement has been made about a full LP. I am about to see them at the FYF Fest at the end of August, and they will hopefully play more of these new songs.
