Loving electronica and not going to dance clubs is the moral equivalent of loving hammers and not going to construction sites. You are never quite sure how they are being used but you can take a good guess.
So listening to the dubby, bleepy, “Bola Remixes”, it doesn’t take a giant leap of imagination to hear what Sleazetone have on their hands.
And what they have on their hands, especially on the Trouble And Bass Star Eyes remix they are hawking, is an echoey bass heavy percussion which feels as though it is sneaking up from a great distance. I have been writing about Drop The Lime and crossover dance for months now and this ain’t that. This is a producers calling card.
According to the press release: “. London-based producer Hanuman is one-half of Monkey Steak (Punch Drunk / Werk Discs / Sleazetone), head honcho of Steak House Records, and one of the main men behind the whole Karnival movement currently making waves throughout the UK bass music world.”
Quite what the Karnival movement is I am not certain, I just caught up with dub-step, but the “Bola” remixes are already all over Chrissy Murdebo where it sounds like the track got attacked by bobots, birds and an irritated synth.
