Slipknot is every teenaged boys hero. Dressed up all scary and disturbing it scares their parents and makes them look cool and as far as ‘shock rock’ goes- it work out OK. The problem is kids today’s parents have already been through the Gwar or even Alice Cooper and Slipknot brings nothing new to the mix other than a false arrogance they didn’t earn the right to have.
Cory Taylor their lead isn’t a bad guy but rather a product of the everyone’s a winner generation. Therefore, he knows all and isn’t afraid to share it. His latest attempt at intellectualism is pretty funny and caught on video but has an amusing quote in response to why we haven’t seen new Slipknot material in so long. Well there is none.. yet, I guess.
“If you are too overwhelmed, then when you sit down and try to write something, it feels forced. There’s nothing worse than forced music. I mean, this world has enough of that right now, where it’s basically McDonald’s making music. ‘Everybody needs another hamburger and fries.’ Here’s a piece of crap that nobody’s gonna care about it two years. I hate that, and I don’t ever wanna, so for me, I wanna be able to let the inspiration come to me. Because that’s when you get the best stuff.”
I think what the truth is would be either writers block or the realization that your 15 min of fame is 20 mins past. I do have to say his Stone Sour act had some merit but when it’s all said and done. Slipknot is a parody band and their too old for the schtick.
