As So Often Seems To Be Happen… Three Songs Have Taken Over My Ipod by Iman Lababedi

1) Tightrope – Janelle Monea – In real time, it’s yesterday.Day three and stuck at home but on the comeback trial and I know it’s back to work tomorrow but I’m restless right now. Half way thru “The Good The Bad The Weird” -a real good Korean sphagetti western, I need a break so I go on pitchfork who are raving about Janelle Monea’s performance on Letterman. So (oh brave new world) I watch it. Imagine Grace Jones morphing into James Brown and you got it and wow, is it something to see. Downloaded the track. It is off the ArchAndroid, her first album in seven years and her first with Badboy and while the album seems like bumbass concept -a rip on Metroplis, “Tightrope” with Big Boi is a funk out of pretty intense proportions. I bet Diddy is a happy man.
2) Drunk Girls – LCD Soundsystem – Depending on the way the summer moves itself, I can really see this being the crossover pop, rock, dance song of our dreams. This one (not the other songs on the album, I’m not changing my mind) sounds like Bowie circa Let’s Dance. It is catchy and silly and purely hedonistic from a guy who has hit the big FOUR OH!!! “I believe in waking up together, I believe in no promises”. All synth bopaholla.
3) I Will Come Back (Drop The Lime Remix) – This is Luca Venecia’s best work all year. Both of the EPs he released this year are really good but both are a little disappointing. Absolutely, he failed to record the live stand out “Set Me Free” right. He either buried the vocals or buried the bass and he really has to go back and try again.-I’ve heard six six mixes and none of them quite get. The Harvard Mix is best No such complaint on this song. Maybe the highered gun aspect freed him up but this loops the song back and forth and then sticks awesome bass and drums till the end which is both trouble and pure percussion. Also, and I may be wrong, but Holy Ghost! hit me as being kinda indestructible when it comes to dance songs. A soul band hiding in a dance band hiding in an alt band.
