Anytime my taste in music and the tastes of those important arbitrators of taste coincides I get nervous.
First I loved crit fave Holy Ghosts!, then I worshopped critic fave Sleigh Bells and now 89% favorable on Metacritic This Is Happening is happening for me.
Worse still, Jason Adams on Entertainment Weekly threw in a very apt Bowie without the baritone comparison. But Adams thinks 80s Bowie, I think a little earlier. Like an upbeat Low.
It worlks really well but intermittently, the sound gets the samey, the joke loses its charms (not unlike… clubbing) and it seems to be missing the one killer track.
One thing for sure? “Drunk Girls” is gonna be on my fave track lists for days to come… And if Spence from Girlie Action doesn’t come through I’m gonna hafta scalp and I checked the prices… lowest on Saturday was $65 for a $35 tix… And I am still sick…
