I’ve been talking up Modern Hut’s Generic Treasure debut album all year and for good reason, it is, if not the best album of the year, certainly the most consistent: ten new songs and a For Science cover of immense power and beauty. It was produced by Marissa Paternoster of Screaming Females and also, of offshoot Noun whose 2010 album Holy Hell I love quite as much as anything else Marissa has put her name to.
Modern Hut are opening for Noun on an August tour of the North East and having seen Modern Hut earlier this year, I wonder how people are going to take to him. Not unlike Dylan on his current tour, Joe is going out of his way to be aloof and as always, Marissa, joined by Screaming Females drummer Jarrett Dougherty, are gonna blow the place up.
They are playing Death By Audio (a Brooklyn joint I’ve never been to) on August 9th and a Friday… if I can figure out where it is I’ll try and go. And that’s it for the city but, if any show is worth a trip this one should be that.
