Mesa Arizona’s emo boys Jimmy Eat World have never impressed me. Too bland too nondescript. They had no hook, nothing unique to separate them from the generic blob of boys with feelings. Honestly I didn’t even thing they were still around. Well actually, they really aren’t. Touring in support of ancient hits and the nostalgia days and a new album- Damage, which took them forever to get out into the world. Tsk Tsk
But hey they got fans and this bit of fun gives me a reason to mention them again. Here the boys take on Taylor Swift in the soon to be anthem “We are never ever ever never ever getting back together..ever…” A ridiculous title and a brilliant chorus. Verdict? Taylor wins hands down. Grown men whimpering out this tune make me want to punch them back in the neck. I absolutely hate the whimper in the voice, hate the slowed down watered down estrogen charged pathetic Pure Pussy League that JEW turns this song into. Taylor Swift has bigger balls than four grown men more than double here age. Yep.
Taylor makes it a ‘kiss my ass’ vibe without an ounce of remorse. Its a powerful tune from a girl in her pajama’s (as the below video shows) and the moody back lit lighting of the live Jimmy Eat World version is a horrible monstrosity of de-masculinization. Gentlemen its time to stop whining.
