Everest At Webster Theater, Friday April 30th, 2010: Mountain Climbing by Mary Magpie

We arrived at the Webster Theater, after being helped out by the nicest parking guys on EARTH, we went inside the unusually unpacked room. The band Everest came on and I fell in love. They put me in a trance, and they were hypnotic.

The almost Death Cab For Cutie sound was the first thing that drew me in. Everest’s set felt like an hour, and I was captivated the whole time. Great energy was pouring from the speakers and the band member’s smiles. The bassist was incredible and easily one of the best bassists I’ve ever seen live. The band was up there and looked like they were just having a good time. They were completely in sync.

When their set ended, I knew that band was something special. Everest’s level of talent was outstanding and would be happy to see them live again. They mentioned they had more, but had reached their time limit. What a shame. I could have easily listened for hours more. It’s rare that an opening act can captivate me in such a way. I felt Everest had more to offer and were pulled back due to time constraints.

Musically sound and engaging perhaps I don’t share Helen’s opinion on this band, but I will be looking out for more tour dates from them, and be expecting great things.
