How I Spent My Summer Vacation Shuffle by Iman Lababedi

The last day of my summer vacation and all I’ve done is write!!! So if you think being a music blogger is emails from rock stars and my name is on the guest list think again.
Number eleven for the day and  I  can’t find much cut and paste and Helen emailed emailed to say she is blanking so here is a shuffle of 11,500 songs on my itunes…
Blind  Willie McTell (Live) – Bob Dylan – Off the Love Sick EP though I remember it from the first Bootleg triple. A gorgeous blues folk tribute to the great man and from 1997. By the way, Dylan live from say 1994 to 1998, was the greatest he ever played on stage. As in ever.
Poker Face – Lady Gaga – I’ve lived with this nearly two years now and it has lost its freshness but makes up with it by becoming a dance standard.
Baby’s Heartbeat – John Lennon And Yoko Ono – Helen thought it was a terrible act, recording his baby’s heartbeat with a stethoscope on Yoko’s stomach while she miscarried in hospital. If the baby had been aborted I might agree but if you ever see pictures taken of them, it was a devastating experience about both a requiem and an artistic statement.
On the album it is followed by two minutes silence which is exactly what it says it is.
Tape Song – The Kills – This chick is so good she can make one of Jack White’s side bands sound great. Really good rocker with fantastic vocals (is that the most generic review you’ve ever heard? there is a drum machine on it as well)
Come Around – M.I.A. feat timbaland – I haven’t seen the video which is upsetting the world, but this is a great meeting of minds between Timbaland’s hooky overdubs (and crap rap) and M.I.A.’s so third wordly vocals.
Old Time’s Sake (feat Dr. Dre) – Eminem – Old fashioned but in a great way. I don’t get at all what Eminem’s problem was with his last album. This may be obvious but it is obvious in a good way. It is Godfather II not Godfather III.
Buttons And Bows – Bob Hope _ What a great comedic singer Hope was. “Don’t bury me in this priarie, take me where the cement grows…” I don’t suffer from nostagia but I sure miss the Bob Hopes and Danny Kayes.
Grievance (Live)  –  Pearl Jam – This is from the incredible MSG concert July 8th, 2003. I had a tix and went to see Metallica at Giant’s Stadium. What a mistake. Off the up to nothing special Binaural album, the lyric supports 1998 WTO protest in Seattle but it is nothing much. Except here, where it rocks like a son of a bitch.
Sodern Soon – Bob Dylan – I am something of an agnostic when it comes to Modern Times. This is a by the numbers blues shuffle. Pretty good but that’s it.
By Myself – Judy Garland – Swingtime on an average though lovely voiced song.
Fine Line – Paul McCartney – A tasty little rocker on one of Macca’s better efforts Chaos And Creation.
Singular Girl – Old 97s – They always play it live because it is an electrified country rock mover.
Little Bribes – Death Cab For Cuties – Pretty good emo pop rock kinda like Narrow Stairs never happened.
Viva Las Vegas – Elvis Presley – And he nailed Ann Margaret during the filming of the movie.
