It’s raining, it’s pouring and this old man is cursing Gov’s Ball for the early start to the nyc Summer Fest, when they should have kept it till late July. Gov’s Ball is at Randall’s Island, a bitch to get to at the best of time. So what to do? How about fast forwarding to the end of the summer and getting a ticket to the EDM blow out at the same venue over the Labor Day Weekend. I could I did…
But it wasn’t an easy call for me and I doubt it will be for you either.
For one thing, don’t bother with Music Festivals if you aren’t going VIP. It is one huge waste of time, a distracting disaster area that you wander around wondering why you bothered while Dirty Projectors plays 30 miles away. For another, because I said so. So, when looking at Electric Zoo, I knew it had to be VIP and because including charges, VIP is $329 per day, one day is all I could afford.
But once the decision to only invest in one day is made, the question is: which day? The “A List” is pretty “A” Avicii, David Guetta, Tiësto, Above & Beyond, Bassnectar, Steve Aoki, Armin van Buuren and Boys Noize. I’ve seen every name here except Above & Beyond, but the name that pops my eyeballs out is David Guetta. Guetta, who I’ve seen perform small sets twice, is the reason I am going. And he is performing on Saturday. So Saturday it is. But even without Guetta, Tiesto, Bassnectar, Boys Noize, Araabmusik and A-Traak will also be performing on Saturday.
I won’t see Avicii (which I can live with) and Benny Benassi (who I would love to have heard), Aoki, Ingrosso and Armin will wait for another long night. Saturday is the day for sure.
