The Wiggles have a female member!!!
When I used to visit my nephew five years ago, his young children were dosed in the wiggles, I couldn’t move from the kitchen to the living room without the sound of the preteen band following me around! Here the Australian children’s band TV show is on in the lounge, escape to the kitchen and one of their many albums is spinning and everybody is doing the monkey dance, get in the SUV and there it is on the DVD screen for the kids to wriggle around to.
Thank God the phase passed and when last seen they listening to heavily expurgated LMFAO.
But there are always more five years old and the Wiggles, who started in 1991, and write consistently and consistently catchy nursery rhyme rock songs (Wikipedia mentions that they always start with the chorus!) are still a hit making machine.
Except.
The all male enclave now includes a woman!
The final bastion of male supremacy has been dashed with the inclusion of Emma Watkins!!!!
““It’s definitely ingrained in my childhood brain, I remember the songs without having to learn them. I must have been training for this all my life.” Emma is such a fan there is film of her dancing at a Wiggles concert in Australia.
And the fans seem to have accepted her! “We’ve seen little girls dressed as me with the bows in the hair — not just one bow, either — at the shows and the yellow skivvies. It’s so great that they accept me as a positive role model. I’ve received about 20 bows in the last two weeks, little girls giving me home-made bows.”
Me, I’m scandalized but in a good way!
