Twenty One Pilots "Migraine" Live Reviewed

Last year, I called “Album of the Year” way before the Grammys, and I was right.  (Babel, by the way.)  Right now, I’m calling Band of the Year.

Twenty One Pilots.  Oh my god.

I previously reviewed their tune “Car Radio” and ever since, I have not listened to anything but their album “Vessel”.  That also includes live versions.  I found a version of “Migraine” captured in The Live Room and to be entirely honest, I like almost cried the first time I heard it.  This band is absolutely perfect.  These two guys have the musical capability of those who’ve been doing it for decades.  Tyler has a gorgeous singing voice that gave me literal chills when I watched this video.  His rapping is actually stronger and packs more of a punch live, which is wonderful.

Josh Dun deserves crazy amounts of awards for being one of the greatest drummers of all time.  Even just watching him play, you can feel the intensity but more importantly, you can feel the fun.  He is freakin’ INSANE.  There’s so much energy he puts into it.  Same with Tyler- his body holds the passion that gets out through the music, and sometimes you catch him shaking with passion.  I don’t remember the last time I saw two performers that had such a strong presence and were able to truly entertain.  They truly are my favourite musical discovery of 2013, and to be quite honest, probably further back than that.  As a creature of habit, it’s hard for a new band to make their way into my playlist, but this duo’s entire discography has dispersed itself out into the contents of my Spotify lists.

I’m seeing these mind-blowingly phenomenal artists May 10th at the Webster Underground.  If they’re headed your way, don’t miss ’em.

This video is just enough to prove that these guys have incredible star-power potential:
