Jakob Dylan’s “Everybody’s Hurting”: What I Am Listening To right This Moment by Iman Lababedi

Jakob Dylan is fucked.
Jakob was handsome enough and talented enough to have made it with the Wallflowers without shit from daddy Zim. Instead he didn’t get shit from daddy Zim. And so Jakob rode coattails that didn’t help him and harmed him beyond belief because when JD could get anyone to focus on the  music for a moment all they could say was it wasn’t as good as papa Z.
The Wallflowers were alright. A song here and there, first album wasn’t bad. “Full Headlights” catchy enough. Saw em live but seeing someone Jakob live is like fucking someone famous: you can’t stop thinking I can’t believe this is really happening.
One pretty good solo later and here is T-Bone Burnett producing Dylan’s second solo album and i don’t know if the rest of his album is any good but”Everybody’s Hurting”, with narcoleptic Neko Case singing back up, is pretty good case of fiscal disasterism set to a country folk sound not (geez: round up the usual suspects) Petty and Springsteen but John Hiatt.
Speaking of how shitty rock critics are, my award for the worst first line of a review I have ever read is off Saxon Baird’s review of Jakob’s  Women + Country: “Should rock critics re-visit the Wallflowers?” Why didn’t Saxon not just write “move on to the next review, fuckface”.
