The Black Lips have a new song, so summer must be here,… not yet, but I definitively associate their laid-back fun garage rock to sunny and carefree days. And ‘Cruising’ is no exception, as soon as you listen to these happy easy-going guitars, which are dramatically speeding up in the middle of the song, you can already see people dancing and bodies flying in the air. ‘Cruising’ is the perfect ode to life on the road, with lyrics like ‘Keep the wheel straight/I’m not worried about the border line/Slow down, signal every single girl/Easy on the gas so the rubbers don’t burn/When I see a sign I’m coming to a stop/I gotta get all though, I can’t get enough’ … err, is it an advice to a restless/drunk driver? I couldn’t tell put the song’s successive accelerations and decelerations bring you on a bumpy and chaotic road.
The new track is featured on a garage-rock compilation ‘Garage Swim’ put together by Adult Swim’s Williams Street Records, it will be out on May 6th with other tracks from The Oh Sees, Jeff the Brotherhood, Bass Drum of Death, King Khan, Mikal Cronin and King Tuff, and the digital release will be available for free.
