Richie Havens – Forever immortalized at Woodstock for his "Motherless Child/Freedom" medley, the hippie folk singer gave a hard strummed acoustic guitar and a soulful vocal to bags full of 1960s classic covers. He was 72 years old when he died.
Christina Amphlett – Lead singer of the Australian New Wavers the Divinyls, they had only hone hit, the 1991 staple "I Touch Myself" (co-written by the same team that gave you "Like A Virgin" and "I'll Stand By You") off their fifth album, but the woman had a terrific persona and the one time I saw them live, around about the hit, they were excellent hard rocking as opposed to the poppier hit single. Christina died of breast cancer. She was 53.
Rita MacNeil -Much beloved Canadian folk singer who wrote a hit for Anne Murray and managed a couple of International hits in her own name while remaining a much beloved figure in her native Nova Scotia. She was 68 years old.
Andy Johns – Enginered the Stones Exile On Mainstreet and produced Televisions Marquee Moon. It must have run in the family, his brother is Glyn Johns. Died from complications after an operation on a lacerated ulcer. He was 62.
George Beverly Shea – Deep voiced Baritone who sang at Billy Graham Revival shows, was known as the first international singing star of the Gospel world. Shea was 104 years old, so I guess it is safe to claim he died of natural causes.
