Final 24, Sid Vicious

Final 24 is a Canadian television series that's sets about to document a celebrities last 24 hours on Earth.  The show has been around since 2006 but I am not in Canada so I hadn't heard of it until the Current cable network decided to show it. And I didn't discover that until I was mindlessly channel surfing and tuned in 2 min til the end.

The show does a flip flop review of Sids life after his release from Rikers where he was held under suspicion of murder in the death of Nancy Spungeon.  Nancy, a pro groupie with snagged her Sid in the UK got him hooked on smack and the rest is history- and urban legend.

As I watched this show the adult in me finally saw how truly uncool Sid was.  Back when I was a teenager I adored him, his photo on my wall his named carved into my hand with a safety pin (not deep enough for forever THANK THE LORD!), but yeah, I loved all he stood for.  Now I realize that without a stage and a guitar strap he was just a pathetic fucked up kid with a shit mother and bad friends.  Nothing to idolize but rather something to pity.  The fame romanticized how truly disgusting he was.

Those who knew him well (and included in this film) all state what a sweet guy he was prior to Nancy.  It's so easy to blame after death isn't it?  Regardless of who (or what) got Sid tangled up in junk, he did- he died and according to Final 24 that lethal dosage was administered by his mother.  Apparently to 'spare him' from returning to Rikers if he lost his murder trial.  The show also suggests Sid was raped and beaten in Rikers. So he was terrified to return.

The actor in the reinactment is awful, the back footage is pretty good (Id forgotten how dumb pogo danicvng looked!!) and the whole 'mom murdered him angle is really played up.

It was worth 48 minutes of my life if only to dash his God like status in my brain.   Just another sad kid in a rock band.  Check it out on Youtube and get a load of that low hit count.
