Don't Believe The Hype About Twitter Followers, And Don't Believe The Numbers!

BBC Newsbeat is reporting something interesting based on research done by the website Socialbakers, a social media analytics platform. And you know what? Around 50% (47% to be exact) of Justin Bieber’s followers on Twitter are fake, and by fake followers they mean accounts that post spam, and tweet about the new diet pill, or how to make money from home…. You know the type. But half of Bieber’s followers are fake? Why doesn’t he get rid of them? May be because this would make him go from 37.3 million followers to only 17.8? What a fall indeed.

To be honest, everyone have fake followers on Twitter, I occasionally have a few of these too, but nothing to that extent!  They also calculated that, after considering Lady Gaga’s potential share of fake followers, she would still have 19 million, a big cut from her 36 million, but she would then beat Bieber!

The report doesn’t say if celebrities don’t get rid of these fake followers because of plain neglect, or because they like the fact they inflate their social numbers,… I suspect the later of course. They are the equivalent of record companies buying tickets at concert to make us believe the show sold out in 30 seconds. We live strange times, social media occupy all our spare time and we are totally manipulated by them. I don’t believe them anymore… and I don’t believe concerts really sell out that fast, we are lied to all the time.
