So its hard to believe Cyndi Lauper has been 'She Boppin'" for thirty freaking years. Its absurd to me that the squeaky voiced songstress with the absurd accent has been around that long. As a kid 'back in the day', any funky hairdo instantly got you called Lauper. Not an insult.
Her early stuff was fantastic. She only started sucking with that 'True Colors' nonsense. Unfortunately thats how she is best known. There was so much more to her music and he 'She's So Unusual' days were far better- trust me. That release mad the 80's even more Technicolor. I adored that album and I always found Cyndi to be a great character. Her intelligence hidden just enough to be humorous but that chick is one smart cookie.
Thirty years deserves celebration so she is touring to do so. Cool huh? Although a mature Lauper doesn't have the skirt swinging devil may care stage presence her voice has remained strong and accurate. She can still yelp like al boss. No its not 1983 anymore but for a night you can pretend it is.
Oh and the chick is going to be on Broadway "Kinky Boots" a new musical- go figure. Said Lauper,
'It's been such an amazing year for me. When I realized it's also the anniversary of the album that started my solo career, I knew it was the perfect time to thank my fans for sticking with me through it all. I'm so excited to perform She's So Unusual from beginning to end, song by song and I can't wait to see everyone!'
