A Fundraiser In Connecticut For Mayla, Aaron Embry's Daughter

I remember seeing Aaron Embry at a 2002 Elliott Smith gig at the Echo, he played a few songs with him, but he even toured with him and recorded the song ‘Pretty (Ugly Before)’. Later in his career, he performed with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, but he played and recorded with many artists, like Daniel Lanois, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris. Last year, he released his own work a solo album entitled ‘Tiny Prayers’ that he wrote while being on tour with Edward Sharpe, and it was full of melancholic piano and delicate country ballads.

Unfortunately, his 4-year-old daughter Mayla was recently diagnosed with leukemia, and we all know the tough reality that many musicians face when it comes to paying medical treatment bills. Mayla has already received her first round of treatments but she will need two more years of weekly treatments.

A friend, Andrew King, is organizing a charity concert to raise money for the little girl in a venue in Hartford, Connecticut, Sully's Pub, on April 27th. The fundraiser event is even called ‘A Shave For Love’, since Andrew has a long beard and wants to put it on the ‘chopping block for charity’!

There will be multiple musical acts performing, as well as raffles, a burlesque troupe performance,… it’s for a very good cause, and all proceeds go to Mayla Embry. I would go if I was living there.
