Hel Does SNL; Adam Ant

It was February 1984.  I was a senior in high school with pretty much not a care in the world.  I considered myself pretty cool but looking back I was really quite the nerd.  While the other girls were screaming for Van Halen I was screaming for the Pop O’ Pies and The Circle Jerks.  But on the side of all that mayhem was a deep love for that new romantic sort of new wave that was going on and the king of those ruffles was Adam Ant.

The coolest thing about Adam Ant was that it was the first  musician that my mom and I agreed on.  That poor woman saw more shaved and booted rockers come through her home and woke to many a floor full of unconscious punks.   There was friction in my choice of social circle but when the house was clear and the stereo on mom and I could rock out to Adam Ant on a pretty even keel.  She felt he was as much a dream boat I as I did.  I may have called him a ‘stud’ or ‘beast’ she in turn referred to him as ‘fantastically charismatic’…who are we kidding, the guy was glorious.

Adam performed ‘Strip’ and ‘Goody Two Shoes’, neither song was high on my list.  I always favored ”Kings of The Wild Frontier”, but having watched the evolution, when the guy reaches the notoriety of SNL- you feel like a proud parent, cuz they’ve ‘made it’.  The white stripe was gone from his nose.  What a shame.

Robin Williams was the host that night, seriously how grating was his constant impersonations?  After awhile you wanted nothing more than to smack him in the head with a brick.  But, again my mom was a fan (go figure on that one) so I can’t bash more than that.

There is no finding Adams performance online.   A problem I seem to keep running in to.  I was able to find this teeny photo though, sad isn’t it?
It is available on Amazon though- and worth the buck.
