Everybody deserves to be left alone to enjoy their lives with some modicum of privacy, especially in NYC where we kinda pride ourselves on not being star struck. Although come to think of it the Jay-Z takes the subway fiasco kinda puts an end to that concept once and for all.
OK, at least here at rock nyc we don't go gaga because we are in an elevator with Conor Oberst or standing in line at a Prince concert behind Elvis Costello. No, we just sneer and wish they would hurry on with their purchase and stop signing autographs. We certainly don't take surreptitious pictures with our IPhones. now do we?
Which is a long way round for us to share this picture of Bowie, wife and model Iman, and daughter 12 year old Alexi on our streets… just like real people and not like the aliens from outer space they so obviously are. The kid looks way upset at the paparazzi who took the pix and who is to blame her. And Bowie? He just moves on with his life with a glower.
Actually, Alexi appears to be out glowering him here, as if the last thing she wants to do is to deal with this crap. And here is a thought: Bowie's son Duncan, the movie director, I mean a real one not a vanity shop one, claims Bowie was an excellent and very normal Daddy so perhaps Bowie's retirement, which coincides well with his daughters childhood, might have had something to do with wanting to watch her grow up.
Bowie was 54 years old when Alexi was born and two years later almost died from a heart attack. More or less the same trajectory of my own Dad so you gotta think one of Bowie's concerns is being a part of his kids life while he can, right? There is something very sweet about all this of course, at odds with the Thin White Duke is Bowie's final act, deepest darkest secret: he is just about normal.
Abnormals? If you have ever read Keith Richards memoir "Life", his son Marlon sure went through it with his dad,. Here is a picture of the Richards family.
