Angie Bowie Chimes in on David’s New Song

There are those of us who have legends that do no wrong.  We admire them so much that we pretend there are no flaws- they remain perfect creations.  I have yet to encounter a performer I have felt that way about.  Elvis Presley I suppose, maybe Sinatra but as for the rest, I really have no problem saying..hang it up if I feel it should be hung.

David Bowie released a rather lackluster single on his birthday and the fans went wild.  What they went wild for was the surprise element.  No one knew it was coming so no one was braced for it.  What we were handed was mediocrity from a legend.  A slow, sad shell of former greatness.  We cheered about it.  But the reality of subpar work is now being explored.  You’re Bowie … THE Bowie we deserve better or you should just remain in hiding and enjoy your life.

I’m not the only one who felt “Where Are We Now?”, was weak.  Former wife Angie blasted the poor old guy.  What exactly has she done for the world other than birth Duncan Jones (the former Zowie Bowie)?  Not too much but shes got plenty to say and its rather sad.

In an article for Britain's Mail on Sunday newspaper, she writes, "As I listen to his new single "Where Are We Now?" I can't help but wonder what happened to the musical innovator. I'm not trying to be unkind, but I can't escape the feeling that the retro-introspective mood of the song has one message – 'I'm not going to be here much longer, let's talk about the past…'

"There's nothing about the sound that's new, either. The subject matter is tired – it's a nostalgic look back to the last time he was at the forefront of pop music."

As harsh as that sounds I have to agree with her.  If you’re going to spring a new tune on us shouldn’t it be more upbeat than swan song?
There’s more to come of course with a full album due in the spring but touring could be a dream and this could be the headstone of a very dynamic career.
