Salzburg Finally Sees The Sound Of Music

The Salzburg State Theater in Austria is finally opened up to the infamous producion "The Sound Of Music."

A town infamous for beauty and Mozart considered the musical beneath them and ‘ear candy’.  Some feared the Nazi references were offensive and considering Hitler was Austrian and the majority of the party were also Austrian it's clearly understandable why the show would be snubbed despite the tourist cash it brings the area.

Now though its 2012 and in a little town who’s financial flourish is pretty much owned by the forbidden show, the crowds are coming to see what all the buzz was about.

It is reported that older residents are uncomfortable with the war references, they are won over shortly thereafter by the lighthearted song and dance and underlying love story.

Most articles paint the Austrian culture as uppity and grim.

Bus driver Peter Proetzner carts around caravans of tourists on pilgrimage to sites made famous in the film and calls The Sound of Music the cities second biggest draw, over only the music festivals and is quoted as saying  “TheSound of Music is better known than Mozart worldwide,”

It's a battle as old as culture, the popularity of modern entertainment versus the contribution of "The Masters".  Salzburg, lighten up, and quit making clothes out of the drapes.
