45s In 69: No Videos Allowed by Mike Nessing

Night Of The Lions – Mark Eric-This guy released one album, “A Midsummer’s Daydream” which is where this is culled from. This is a pretty good surf pop- soft-pop -psych –pop hybrid of sorts. The album is long out of print and highly sought after by collectors of the genre.

No Fun – The Stooges- The handclaps may be a tad unnecessary, but how can you nitpick over a classic?

No Matter What Sign You Are – Diana Ross & The Supremes-Not their biggest hit by a long shot, but a pretty good tune.

Oh Well – Fleetwood Mac-Once upon A time The Mac were an electric blues band and a pretty good one to boot.

Oh What A Night – The Dells-Whew, what a dazzling track. Doo-Wop’s last stand?

Okie From Muskogee – Merle Haggard-In which Merle draws the line in the sand against them thar’ hippies and their cotton pickin’ drug taking and free love-a thons.

One – Three Dog Night-More like “Two”

One Has My Name (The Other Has My Heart) – Jerry Lee Lewis-Nice C&W offering from the killer here, but this was not his strong suit.

Ooblek – Moses Lake-A crazy little nugget from the west coast.

Pale Blue Eyes – The Velvet Underground-Almost commercial by today’s standards.

Peace Loving Man – Blossom Toes-OK trying not to describe this by using the word “heavy” is tough, but this is a slice of British Psych that I was unaware of till now. This is pretty great, with all those spoken word bits in the middle, but more tongue in cheek than say, the Moody Blues and more comedic along the lines of Zappa/Mothers.

Peaches En Regalia – Frank Zappa-A dazzling display of Pop-rock-a-jazz all fused together into one of the sweetest confections ever tasted. Stellar.

Peculiar Hole In The Sky – The Easybeats-They gave us “Friday On My Mind”. This has more of a psych bend to it, surprise surprise. It’s not bad, but it’s just more proof positive that they were followers and not leaders.

Pickin’ Up The Pieces – Poco-Nothing like a little Poco. This is about three minutes twenty two seconds too much.

Pinball Wizard – The Who-This is how I like to remember it. As a plastic platter. Screw the movie with the baked beans. Elton and the big shoes. Let me listen to it and create my own visual.
