Last year we had One Direction AND The Wanted, and Taylor Swift AND Justin Bieber, it was the 4th Jungle Ball I’ve reviewed for rock nyc, maybe the 10th plus I’ve been to. And maybe the best, certainly the first hour. 1D/Olly Murs/Taylor, was the best hour I’ve ever seen.
I knew it would be hard for Z-100’s Jingle Ball 2013 and this line up isn’t in the same league:

- Fall Out Boy
- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
- Selena Gomez
- Fifth Harmony
- Ariana Grande
- Jason Derulo
- Austin Mahone
This isn’t a terrible line up but it is missing two, maybe even three, huge names. Add Katy Perry and Lady Gaga to the mix, maybe Timberlake for taste, it just doesn’t peak high enough. I just saw the Miley-Thicke performance at Barclay center and I enjoyed it fine, but quite how it will go down with the tweens of Z100 land I am less than certain. Also, if this was September 2013 instead of December it would be much bigger but it isn’t and so there is something sooooo five minutes ago about it.
Enrique Iglesias and Macklemore And Lewis are awful, Austin Mahone, Fifth Harmony and Ariana Grande are not ready for prime time yet, fall Out Boy out of their element, and that leaves Selena Gomez and Pitbull as must sees.
Now, add them all together and you will have a fun night but what you won’t have is the state of the art of pop which is exactly what we want. What would I have lined up?
