Youtube: Its Not Just For Videos Anymore -By Helen Bach

Woot I feel validated.
As someone who is not the most savvy with an mp3 I often get my first listens from youtube.
When researching something I’m unfamiliar with I will usually venture over to have a listen via their video music.
At times its some home made slide show of crap but the music is there and that’s pretty much all I need.
I’m not going to  invest in 2 seconds of Andre 3000 and 5 min of Kesh but I will check it out.
Come to find out its a pretty common practice.
Here’s some other interesting statistics from a survey of nearly 27,000 people:
  • 21% of them streamed music on their smart phones
  • 23% watch videos on their smart phones
  • 35% access music via some kind of social network (Facebook, Twitter and, yes, MySpace)
  • And 36% people stream music to their computers.
That’s pretty interesting stuff.  I most definitely use Pandora on my blackberry at the gym, sometime at work but there I stream via iTouch and youtube if I just want a specific artist.
So, legal downloading is still good and strong but apparently there are numerous ways to hear what you desire- and it doesn’t require a mixed cassette tape.
