| Woody can’t find a tee that reads ‘will fuck for your attendence at 4themusiclovefest’
The last 72 hrs of life have been hellish heaven. Bittersweet.. A gangsters paradise even.
And I can attribute three things that have surely ensured my survival through it all.
1. Great music 2. Adderall 3. Sex
Promoting for my Aug 21st show at Don Hills has not been easy. Not even close. To get an idea of a day in the life of Woody the concert promoter, let’s take a closer look..
And if you don’t care then start rolling that wheel dealie on your mouse cause I wrote a shit ton. If you can’t handle the read, there is no way in hell you could ever handle the stress and commitment it takes to put on a show. That is some hard ass, put some elbow grease into it, work.
7:30 wake up – take adderall and drink coffee so I have energy to start my vigorous day.
8:30 depart – walk from my apt 36th street uptown to 45th, stopping at music stores, various clothing stores, and tourist offices to spread the 4TheLove Music Fest to the world and get listed on every NYC music and event calendar possible.
This also obviously includes profiling every person I pass trying to determine if stopping them for a one-on-one promotion was in order. If they pass my clothes, attitude and overall swagger test, then they get a specially designed flyer and my go to pick up line.
“Do you like music?” They normally did. “what genre in particular” I would then add that I was only curious bc my company, 4TheLove Music was throwing a festival and they should attend.
Quick brief on each band, mention a comedian is hosting for non-stop entertainment, then i was on my way.
After ordering 5,000 flyers, I had to pass one out every 1.9 minutes to get them all out by the big night.
12:30- back to apt to re-up on flyers.
– after a refuel on two to three hundo more flyers and some cran-apple juice. Had to hit the streets again, what would I do with out iPod and headphones. Probably be face down, dead, in a ditch.
This time down town, walking to Madison square park, still circulating flyers as I went. Made a stop half way there to meet Pants Velours manager, Ross, to share my wealth of flyers with him, as well as 1/10 of my posters.
Made stops at a several NYU housing buildings, pushing show to several students ,staff and posting on every bulletin board, (sorry to other flyers i covered, and stole tacs from).
After taking full advantage of the hr plus line waiting for some Shake Shack, they had no choice but to stand there and talk with me, some more listened than talked. Have you ever had one of those burgers? No way in hell a sane man will lose his spot in line on the account of a crazed college kid yapping his ears off, tweaked on coffee and adderall, about his music fest. They are just too freakin delicious.
2:00 lunch Wasn’t too hungry, but met my lady friend for some bomb diggity chicken wraps. Just the something special I needed, the wrap wasn’t bad either.
Sorry cutie, but gotta get back on the hustle. Maybe I’ll see you later?
Not twice in one day, she shot back.
Well see about that one, I said with an ear to ear grin, ( foreshadow foreshadow)
I was now en route to Washington Square park, one of my favorite parks I might add. Def some music lovers up in here. Did my thing there for hr or two. Using same “Do you like music?” pick up line. Worked every time, and never encountered an ignorer, walk-off, or someone assuming I was was mentally in stable, which is funny cause I’m not too certain about the latter.
Ventured to some music stores; one in West village was opened but locked, had to get buzzed in to enter. Only employee was in the back doing something very important, even upon my entrance he returned to the back to continue. Even before I told him I was only here baring an invitation to my Music Fest, he wanted me out asap. Quite difficult to have a conversation with, but eventually got him to keep some flyers to put in his store, but by this point I had no interest in him attending.
Couple of blocks away, I entered a Guitar shop, and received almost polar opposite response from owner and others in shop. They were all quite enthused about my whole demeanor and music fest all together, not saying they are attending nor I am expecting to see them front row, but at least I got a short break, and got to talk music with my nice new friends for a few minutes. Left shop enroute to Carmine street, Cabritos bar and restaurant. One of my star acts, Fuzzy G, is a bar back there and i needed to share with him some flyers, my street team/wolfpack had now increased to 3.
5:00- To Don hills Continued my hike south to Don Hills, where music fest will be held. Met with Don himself. Posted up some posters, shot the shit for a while. He informed me that the White Stripes, (not entire band) but Jack and band played a completely un-advertised show at Don Hills the previous night. Whi
ch just made me depressed that a completely un-advertised show can sell out and I’m here busting my ass to get as many people to Don Hills as possible for my show next weekend. (Editors Note: I guess you didn’t read my post about the gig: it was the Dead Weather, his band with the chick from the Kills, who played, White lost it on the audience at one point)
Leave Don Hills to head to Hudson square to see Bajah and Dry Eye Crew put on free show,( no time for detail here, read my previously posted review if interested about them).
7:00- Get on subway back to 36th street, work that subway like there was no tomorrow. Got every single persons attention, asking entire car who liked music, ( if ain’t broke, don’t fix it).
8:00 Snack and depart to BK Head to Sweat Shop, rehearsal and recording studio to post some more posters, and talk with all the musicians who frequent the facility, all music lovers, so most seemed quite interested.
9:00 Went to Arlene’s Grocery A band I’m working with, Lonesome Mustangs, who are playing 4TheLove Music Fest, had a show, so i wanted to show support and advertise to attendees about next time they could catch the Mustangs at work. They put up a great show, ( review and pics coming soon).
10:30 Went to grab some drinks with band after show. Made some friends and gave them my spiel.
11:30 Headed to St. Marks street to see if I couldn’t convince any strangers to attend my music fest.
12:30 Met up with mystery girl for 2nd time in day, (told ya.)
2:00 Made it home alive, sleep, wake up tomorrow and more or less repeat, everyday, until the BIG DAY.
Why did i decided to do all this again?.. Oh Yeah I love music, and this is how I do what I do. I know what I want. I know what to do to get what I want. I do it. |
