Woodstock And The Wages Of Sin And Rockers

tempFileForShare

by the time we got to Woodstock we were $18,000 strong

It was nearly 47 years ago that three days of love, peace and music 9and rain and mud) happened in a farm called Woodstock and boy have times changed, not least of all in the music, where the chump change paid to rock stars wouldn’t stand the smell test in 2015.

Or would it?

Figure , if you include inflation, the $18,000 paid to headliner Jimi Hendrix is worth $180,000 in todays money. And figure Jimi would probably be paid upwards of a million, a million and a half bucks, if he played Coachella: they got a bargain!!

Other surprises? Blood, sweat and Tears got more than double the Who. Indeed, the entire pecking order is all a little strange, isn’t it?

More info about the summer after the summer of love? Johnson was President , MLK was assassinated, RFK was assassinated, a new car was $2,500, and Vietnam was in full swing. A long time ago.

Santana and Sha Na Na sure got shafted, and CSNY made as much as Arlo??? I’m guessing some managers got canned (heat) when these umbers leaked. Joe Cocker left a superstar, right? Was Sly really the only back act???
