Wisin And Yandel At Summerstage, Saturday, August 13th, 2011

If Mega 97.9 DJ Alex Sensation asks for one more shout out to Pepsi, I will be worried for his life. We have been waiting for 90 minutes between sets and the audience is getting testy. Not that they are saying much, but they are completely ignoring the DJ's attempts to stir the SROers.

What gives? Yisin Y Yandel are a talented reggaeton slash salsa duo, the girls like em, they've recorded with Akon. But it is 530pm and people want to get the show on the road.

When they finally hit the stage, the state of the art video, the ten dancers, the full band, all together now, can't make up for a by the numbers set. At their best when playing reggaeton, Yisin looks like a Barrio gangsta and Wandel a boy toy, they can be electrifying. This isn't MOR Latin balladdeering, the rapping is excellent and the double drumming revitting. But too often the set sinks under its own presumptiousness.

There is no English spoken and the shouts out? Peru, Dominican Republic, PUERTO RICO. Ground zero for the boys.

In an age of Pitbull's, Y&M sound oddly quaint, their attitude cute but detached and the audience ain't buying for the most part. Maybe they're tired after the long wait. Still, from time to time the band blow it out. A version of "Nocho De Sexo" -the Aventura hit, is powerful dance music and their own "Rakata" shakes us all up.

I leave before the encore and I am not alone.
