Who Are The Champions?
Who are the champions? Sure, the Yanks, who just won the world series. But what about Queen whom as Tex caught the toss at first, blasted on to the sound system with “We Are The Champions” a song as completely obvious, and eternal, as “Happy Birthday To You”? You win, you play “We Are The Champions”.
The song itself is a perfect Queens number, operatic, mammoth in scope, it swoops and Freddie Mercury whoops, nd the band plays hard rock and though the melody is minor it is a minor in a very easy to sing way. If it was intricate you couldn’t scream it and remain close to key. The lyric so simple it just affirms itself and affirms itself.
And, really, you know, when you’re a Yankee fan there is no room for losers…
