In the 1970s, Van Morrison took a three year break from releasing ablbum! A true period of transition but since then… look at it this way, he released nine albums in the 2000s. The man is a songwriting machine, he always has been.
So Morrison not releasing any new material since 2008's Keep It Simple, is simply baffling. We're not talking U2 here… He hasn't been back in nyc since the winter of 2009 Astral Weeks gigs. The last we heard about him, Morrison was having his email account hacking into to announce he had just had a baby with a woman other than his wife. Kinda depressing and who cares, right?
Watching "Bridesmaids" the other day, Ryan Adams, trying so hard to be a new generations Van The Man, got me missing the great one. Certainly, as we head head first into one of the most relentlessly miserable times of year, I sure don't mean turning to VM for a sidewise trip into the mystic. All well and good but I'm not getting it.
