And if it can happen to him what about you?
Human life is both the most sacred and most completely irrelevant thing in the world. Everybody dies and dead is dead so who cares?
But it is too easy to be cavalier with other people’s lives and deaths. Even those we love.
HBO recently, ridiculously, canonized the euthanasia doctor of death Jack Kerkorvian. Abortions are in the tens of millions. The question as to at what point is it a waste to keep people alive is at the center of a UK health debate.
What has this to do with Elliott Smith.
The dead can’t protect themselves.
The dead can’t say “hey, I was 34 years old and I was loved by millions, don’t you want to know what happened”.
The dead (and by the dead I mean you and me) have no advocates. With the entire world pushing Elliott to the fringes of his own life and death, with even his biggest fans giving up on it, Smith has been deserted. He has had his rights stripped away from him. Oh, sorry, the dead have no rights.
This is repulsive, ridiculous, abhorrent.
Cmon guys. There must be some way to push the LAPD. It isn’t just about Smith, it is about you and me.
Don’t let’s let this story die.
LAPD call it a dead case and open up your files.
Because you are coming after me next.
