What gives at Brooklyn Vegan? Just a month ago they were the gold standard of music blogs. They knew everything, they knew everyone, they were a step ahead of the competition. I just loved em even if they didn’t use my reviews any more.
But I began to give up on em entirely on weekends because there was no new product there and then I began to notice they just didn’t have the story any more. They didn’t have Steve Tyler. They don’t have Lady Gaga on sale. Eh?
Perhaps they’ve been sold? CBS bought Metacritic and destroyed the site. Hits went for 500,000 a month to 300,000 a month in three months. That’s a pretty impressive drop off in readers and it must have something to do with CNET not giving a shit about the sight. They probably just bundle it off with a dozen other sites.
I know exactly what it takes to maintain a blog or website. Unconditional hard work for no reason whatsoever. That’s what Brooklynvegan.com has offered its readers for years. Let’s hope the owners are just taking a well deserved break because if BV becomes Metacritic I along with many other new york music fans, will be very upset.
