I have seen “Dark Eyes” performed live once, with the songwriter himself, Bob Dylan joined by Patti Smith at Beacon Theatre. It is a highlight of my Dylan going to career. “Dark Eyes” is off the 1985 Empire Burlesque.
This live cover by Dirty Projectors n Australian is a credit to the song. I have been down on DP since a disappointing set in Brooklyn late last year but this simple (acoustic, harmonica) version captures the wells of sorrow and the backup vocals are completely lovely.
