Listening to the first new Bright Eyes release, “Happy Accident” since 2007 is like when your best friend gets married and moves out of State and you’re in an airport between a and b and you run into him years later with hours to kill before your flights.
It’s like you’ve never been apart. Everything becomes short hand memory riffs, you instantly feel that bond again. Both very sad and very joyful.
From the opening tinkling piano to the obstreperous digital ash exit, and every one moment in between, the sweet rasp on the chorus, the back-ground vocals, and the lines that just hit you. “… all the boys who are scared of sex, what a shame they grow up to be men”.
You just know I am gonna drive you crazy about this song.
Wide Awake was my fave album of the 00s and I am just happy to have the band back today…
