What Am I Listening To Right This Minute? Alan Jackson’s “Hard Hat And A Hammer” by Iman Lababedi

“God bless the working man…” I don’t work with my hands but I sure do work hard, what between one thing and another it never bloody ends.
Plus, I’ve always considered myself an intellectual prole -one reason why I love the
utilitarian values of  dance (Saturday Night Fever ended the concept of dance as middle class 30 years ago) and one reason why I love Alan Jackson.
It’s not true “Hard Hat And A Hammer” is flag waving jingoism, Jackson isn’t a fool -he doesn’t claim, US workers are better than, say, Korean workers: he seems them come in and work their lives, and fade away just to be replaced by another young man.
But he finds dignity to it: in a life working, raising, living. This is the sort of patriotism that never gets old in my book.
I agree: “God bless the working man”. A fabulous song by one of the country greats WHO WON’T BE PLAYING LOCALLY ON THE TOUR
